Miss Chinese Montreal Pageant makes grand return, celebrates 40th edition

The downtown stage at Le Windsor Saturday night was graced by the Miss Chinese Montreal Pageant.

It was their first in-person event since the pandemic — and they made a grand return marking their 40th edition. 

Celebrating the beauty, talent, and cultural heritage of the Chinese community in our city.

“I feel really grateful to be here today,” said Louese Hu, crowned Miss Chinese Montreal 2025. “To share this most unforgettable experience of my life.”

“Traditionally, pageant is something like we think it should be very strict,” said Hu. “But all this experience is just very, very fun.”

“I encourage future generations to participate in it.”

The 23-year-old French teacher was one of the seven finalists who wowed through the evening— an evening put together by the pageant’s new organizers – husband and wife duo, Jimmy Chan and Susan Woo, who are continuing the event’s legacy.

“Took two months, intensive of training and also coordinating and put the show together,” said Chan. “It’s not really much of competition, is to understand what life who they are and what they will become.”

Filled with energy, confidence, talent and judges the event showcases that true beauty comes from within.

Doing this, since 1984.

“The importance of this pageant has been historically over years is empowering Chinese women,” said Cathy Leung-Rosnuk, Miss Chinese Montreal 1987. “So having that, celebrating our town, celebrating Montreal.”

The experience, aims to help contestants become the leaders of tomorrow.

Leung-Rosnuk, a true testament to this.

Her daughter, followed in her footsteps, winning the virtual pageant in 2021.

“It’s just really inspirational that she did this around the same age that I did,” said Tyra Rosnuk, Miss Chinese Montreal 2021. “I’m really happy to be here tonight.”

“It’s great to see everybody again.”

Taking home a cash prize of $2,000, Hu will now represent Montreal at the 2025 Miss Chinese International Pageant in Hong Kong.

“I would be really happy to represent Montreal as I grew up here,” she said. “I will again try my best and use my positivity and courage.”
