Montreal police say four teenagers were injured in a stabbing near a high school in Saint-Michel on Thursday afternoon, two of whom were later arrested for armed assault.
The incident led to a roughly 45-minute lockdown of John F. Kennedy high school and adult education centre. The lockdown was lifted once officers secured the area.
“The school decided to lock down just to make sure, in prevention, to reassure people, to make sure that no one or no suspect or no victim were inside, and there was no dangers for students,” SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant told reporters.
The stabbings happened around 1 p.m. in an alley on Villeray Street near 10th Avenue after police say an altercation escalated — possibly involving up to 10 people.
Two 19-year-olds were found injured at the scene — one whose injuries were minor and did not require hospitalization. Two 15-year-olds took themselves to hospital; they were later arrested. Nobody’s life is considered in danger.
The SPVM spokesperson says the incident was caught on camera.
“There’s people that filmed the situation,” Brabant said. “So we have footage of what happened. We’ll try to gather other information by witnesses and surveillance cameras of the school and businesses that were around the area.”
