Two buildings targeted by arson attacks in Montreal

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating two arson attacks overnight.
The first incident was reported to 911 around 1:31 a.m. about a business on fire on Sunnybrooke Blvd. in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, near the intersection with Cérès Street.
According to the SPVM, when officers arrived on the scene, firefighters were still trying to get the blaze under control. The business suffered major damage.
Initial reports revealed that at least one suspect was seen leaving the scene of the fire.
The area was secured, and the investigation was transferred to the SPVM’s arson squad.
The second fire occurred at a residence on Alfred Street, near Henri-Bourassa Blvd., in Montreal North.
The Montreal Fire Department (SIM) requested help from the SPVM around 2 a.m.
When police arrived on scene, firefighters had the flames under control.
One person was slightly affected by the smoke, but did not require medical care.
The investigation was transferred to the SPVM’s arson squad after finding traces of accelerant.
A security perimeter was set up and investigators are expected to analyze the scene.
No arrests have been made in either case so far. Both investigations are ongoing.
