Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge: Fourth lane pushed back until 2025

Quebec’s Transport Ministry says the fourth lane will not be ready on the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge until next year.
The work will continue throughout the winter since some bridge beams are said to be continuously deteriorating in the Senneville sector.
“Before reopening another lane safely, the shoring work that’s been underway since last summer must be sufficiently advanced. In short, the work on either side of one of the two piers under construction must be completed,” reads a press release.
The Ministry said it’s aware of the inconveniences that this has caused for motorists and plans to extend their mitigation measures to help ease the burden and avoid congestion. Currently, discounts and additional public transit in the area has been in effect.
“Since November 16, buses have been permitted to use the shoulder on Highway 40 eastbound, so that their passengers can avoid some of the congestion to reach the bridge,” noted the press release.
Drivers have access to three lanes on the bridge, including two in the direction of traffic during peak periods.
