Both the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (CDN-NDG) borough mayor, Gracia Kasoki Katahwa, and Lachine mayor, Maja Vodanovic, are running to lead Projet Montréal.
For now, they are set to go against former Projet Montréal president Guedwig Bernier, and Plateau-Mont-Royal borough mayor and executive committee chair Luc Rabouin.
Katahwa officially announced her hopes to succeed Valérie Plante in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Katahwa served as an administrator for the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec, as she was a nurse for 10 years before starting politics in 2021.
“I’ve seen how the failings of the healthcare system have a serious impact on people’s lives,” she wrote. “At that moment, something inside me felt the need to act, to do more.”
As for Vodanovic, La Presse learned that she will be running to lead Projet Montréal.
If elected, she told La Presse that she’d ensure the progress of the Pink Line project, and focus on a cargo tram — transporting people and commercial goods.
Back in October, Plante had announced that she would not seek re-election.
Her successor is set to be chosen in March.
