By News Staff

A battery recycling plant in Sainte-Catherine, on Montreal’s South Shore, caught on fire Sunday evening.

The flames broke out around 8:45 p.m. at Terrapure Environnement.

Approximately 40 firefighters were on the site.

The roof of the building was particularly affected by the fire, but it was eventually brought under control.

Environment Quebec later went to the site to determine if the air quality was affected but confirmed that the smoke was not a health hazard.

No injuries were reported.
