Residents of the municipality of Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury, on the outskirts of Quebec City had been temporarily evacuated due to flooding but can now return home.
On Monday, the City of Stoneham announced the Huron River had overflowed in the sectors of Chemin de la Rivière and Chemin des Anémones and had deployed firefighters and road workers from the municipality to ask affected citizens to evacuate their homes.
In the latest update, the city now says that the ice jam at the Crawford Road bridge has broken, and the water has receded and is back to non-threatening levels.
Two residences that were affected by the flooding had to be evacuated and city crews will remain on site to monitor water levels throughout the night, as public safety is monitoring the situation but the worst appears to be over.
Unseasonably warm temperatures in Quebec have contributed to the increased precipitation.
However, the arrival of colder weather could cause rain accumulations to freeze.
In addition to the return of the cold, a system heading towards Quebec could also bring 15 to 20 centimetres of snow to the region.
