Opération Nez rouge gave a lift to almost 27,000 Canadians during holiday season

By The Canadian Press

As the holiday season drew to a close, so too did Opération Nez rouge, after more than 23,800 volunteers drove nearly 27,000 partygoers from coast to coast in Canada. The non-profit organization unveiled the results of the 41st edition of the operation on Friday.

From Nov. 29 to Dec. 31, 2024, a total of 23,827 volunteers across the country provided 26,935 rides in 77 Canadian municipalities.

In Quebec, 19,495 Good Samaritans gave a safe ride to 20,950 callers.

Last year, the operation totalled over 30,000 rides in Canada, and over 22,600 in la Belle Province alone.

Despite the drop in volume, the organization reports an increase in the average number of rides per evening. The same was true for volunteer mobilization.

Opération Nez rouge believes that these results, far from being negative, rather demonstrate “the importance of Opération Nez rouge in preventing impaired driving, as well as the collective solidarity surrounding this initiative.”

According to Statistics Canada, the number of alcohol-impaired driving incidents has been falling almost steadily since 2009.
