School bus general strike by La Montréalaise drivers, affecting CSSDM

By News Staff

As of Monday morning, drivers of Autobus La Montréalaise, associated with Transport scolaire Sogesco, launched an unlimited general strike.

Members of the Syndicat des travailleurs et travailleurs des Autobus La Montréalaise-CSN Division Montréal (STTALM-CSN-DM) are launching the strike action.

Back on Oct. 28, 2024 the union had adopted a mandate of pressure tactics that could go as far as an unlimited general strike by 95 per cent — to be launched at a time deemed appropriate.

The Jan. 20 unlimited general strike date was then set at a general meeting on Jan. 8.

On Friday, members of the Syndicat des travailleurs et travailleurs d’Autobus La Montréalaise–CSN–Division Montréal (STTALM–CSN–DM) rejected the employer’s latest offer by 70 per cent.

CityNews reached out to the union, and they explained that it will only affects students from the Centre de services scolaire de Montréal (CSSDM).

The CSSDM told CityNews that “Our 17 La Montréalaise bus routes have been on strike since this morning for an indefinite period.”

“Negotiations are continuing,” they added, explaining that they sent a communication to parents on Saturday and “a notification was made via the Mtransport application this morning.”

The STTALM-CSN-DM brings together 30 members who have been without an employment contract since June 30, 2023.
