Montreal’s Glissades Gamelin returns with a four-lane refrigerated hill

"We will go back!" said one Montrealer after trying the new four-lane refrigerated hill at Glissades Gamelin, called LA FOMO. Johanie Bouffard reports.

Montrealers can hit slopes downtown and turn winter into a true playground at Quartier des Spectacles. For its second season, the city introduced a new heated chalet and a four-lane refrigerated hill for sledding called La FOMO.

It’s part of the free Glissades Gamelin circuit which made its debut last winter. It includes two other hills: the MOLLO for snowskating and snowshoeing and the YOLO for those looking for looking for more thrills.

Mayor Valérie Plante was on hand, at Émilie-Gamelin Square on Wednesday, where families enjoyed some professional downhill demonstrations, coffee and hot chocolate.

“It’s really fun, it’s friendly, and I can’t wait for the warmer days, I won’t lie. It’s pretty cold, but even with the cold, it’s fun, so yes, we’ll be coming back,” said one participant who came with her colleagues.

“This was my first time doing this and it was a bit too fast, but it was so fun!” said one Montrealer.

“Totally agree! Come down to Glissades Gamelin, it’s amazing!” added another one.

After a day on the slopes, Montrealers can unwind at the L’Après-glisse chalet, enjoying the cozy atmosphere with treats and hot drinks served by Café Tranquille.

The site is free to access, and participants can borrow equipment at no cost.

Over 2,100 people attended last weekend, exceeding all expectations, according to Éric Lefebvre, general director of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.

The Glissades Gamelin hills are open Wednesday through Sunday until March 9th.
