The ‘Tramway de l’Est’ project has been confirmed for Montreal East, the project is expected to take a couple years before it opens and will reportedly cost $18.6 billion.
Quebec Transport Minister Geneviève Guilbault will make the official announcement Wednesday – launching the preliminary analysis phase by the summer.

The 38-kilometer public transit infrastructure is expected to serve the east end of the island and Repentigny. It will have 31 stations and will be connected to the metro’s green and blue lines.

The Legault government is authorizing Mobility Infra Québec (MIQ) to manage this project.
The builder is expected to be selected in 2027, with construction to start shortly thereafter.

The project was set to be announced on Monday, but was postponed after Premier Legault on Sunday called for a public inquiry into the SAAQclic fiasco.
