Quebec Transport Minister Geneviève Guilbault believes she still has François Legault’s confidence in the wake of the costly failures of the digital transition at the Société d’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ).
“To my knowledge, I still have his confidence. I have several interactions with him,” she said at a press conference regarding the announcement of a public transit project in Repentigny on Wednesday.
“He and I have in common the desire to get to the bottom of this issue, to understand the source of the problems that have been encountered for at least 10 years,” she added, alongside ministers Chantal Rouleau and Pascale Déry.
Guilbault was taking part in her first public appearance since the premier announced that he wanted to launch a public inquiry into the SAAQclic fiasco.
The CAQ politician assured that she would participate in this inquiry “if I am asked.”
“I will answer the questions that will be asked of me when we have the public inquiry,” she said.
Last month, the Auditor General of Quebec tabled a hard-hitting report that reported cost overruns of at least $500 million in the SAAQclic file.
The resigning Minister of Cybersecurity and Digital Affairs, Éric Caire, Guilbault and her predecessor, François Bonnardel, repeated that they were not aware of the SAAQclic mess and that things had been hidden from them.
The Auditor General was not able to say whether or not the ministers concerned had been duped.
