A migrant family of four, including two young children, were rescued at the Canada-U.S. border on Thursday, as they were trying to enter Quebec illegally.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had to intervene around 4:15 a.m. in the middle of the forest in Havelock, about 65 kilometres south of Montreal.
The family was “frozen” and suffering from hypothermia, while sitting at a tree on private land.
They were reportedly in the cold for over eight hours.
RCMP officers were able to provide them with warm clothing while awaiting paramedics, as the family was not appropriately dressed.
They were all transported to Anna-Laberge Hospital in Châteauguay and their lives are not in danger.
The family will likely ask for refugee status.
