Leader of Ensemble Montréal and candidate for mayor of the city, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, held a press conference Monday morning announcing the candidate that will run for mayor of the Verdun borough for the party in the upcoming municipal elections set to take place on Nov. 2.
She welcomed Alain Bourque to her team — now the first to represent the party as a candidate for mayor of the borough.
“I am privileged to join the Ensemble Montréal team, a unifying party that listens to all citizens,” he said in a press release. “Soraya and I share the same vision of collaborative leadership to effectively manage Verdun’s social and economic issues.”
“My goal is to restore active listening, give back to the community, and offer citizens effective services,” he added.

A resident of the borough, Bourque has been involved in education for over 30 years, in addition to serving on several boards of directors, including the Caisse Desjardins-Îles-des-Soeurs-Verdun and as president of the Réseau Affaires Verdun.
He currently serves as director of the Verdun Vocational Training Centre.
“I’m very proud to announce that I’m gonna be running for the mayor of Verdun L’Île-des-Sœur,” he said.

“We are very proud to have him on our team,” said Martinez Ferrada. “He is somebody that is very close to the community, somebody that wants to work for the community and that is one of the reasons that he has decided to run for Ensemble Montréal.”
A cycling enthusiast, Bourque has also been involved for several years with the youth of the Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Service Centre in the Grand défi Pierre-Lavoie events.
He also hopes to continue developing the borough’s cycling infrastructure through a collaborative approach, in partnership with residents and local stakeholders, to better meet their diverse needs.
“I am proud of this first candidacy for the Nov. 2 election! Alain wants real change for Verdun and he knows that this will require a change at Montreal City Hall with Ensemble Montréal,” said Martinez Ferrada.
