Strike Tuesday and Wednesday in more than 400 CPE daycares

By The Canadian Press

More than 400 early childcare centres in Quebec known as CPEs will be affected by two more days of strike action on Tuesday and Wednesday.

These are the workers who are members of the Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux (FSSS), affiliated with the CSN, who will hold their fourth and fifth days of strike action.

Since their initial strike mandate included five days of strike action, they will take the opportunity to meet on Wednesday to decide on another mandate for pressure tactics that could lead to an unlimited general strike.

To avoid these two more days of strike action and conclude these lengthy negotiations, Quebec’s Treasury Board submitted a comprehensive offer last week. This triggered intensive negotiations, which were still ongoing on Monday.

However, the gap between the parties remained significant, as the FSSS announced on Monday that the strikes on Tuesday and Wednesday would continue.

The dispute concerns wages, workload, bonuses for workers in remote areas, and assistance for children with special needs.
