The Legault government predicts a residual materials crisis within two years if the site of the hazardous waste company Stablex in Blainville is not expanded.
Natural Resources Minister Maïté Blanchette Vézina justified her desire on Tuesday to expropriate land belonging to the City of Blainville against its will to store hazardous materials.
Consultations on Bill 93, which authorizes the expropriation, began Tuesday.

According to the minister, the storage cells will be full in 2027 and it will take two years to build a new one on the planned site, so urgent action is needed to begin work in April.
The general manager of Stablex, who appeared before the parliamentary committee, echoed this sentiment.
Michel Perron stated that building the new cell on the expropriated land would be the only solution to avoid a service disruption.
