Suspect in Mercier stabs victim and flees, before turning himself into Montreal police

By News Staff

A 49-year-old man was stabbed Thursday night by a suspect who fled the scene before later calling 911 to surrender to police in Montreal’s Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.

Around 11 p.m., Montreal Police (SPVM) were called to an armed assault at an apartment on Baillairgé Street, near Saint-Donat Street.

Police said that the man was injured by a “sharp object” after an altercation took place with several people inside the apartment.

The suspect, who police said knows the victim, fled the scene before the SPVM arrived.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, they added.

Around 12:35 a.m., the suspect — a 48-year-old man — called 911 to surrender to police. Officers then arrested him at the Honoré-Beaugrand metro station.

He will be met by investigators, who will also analyze the scene with forensic technicians.

An investigation is ongoing.
