A woman in her 70s has been missing since a fire broke out in a single-family home on Saturday evening in Val-d’Or, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) were called to the scene around 10 p.m. at the residence located on Saint-Philippe Street.
One person was also seriously injured in the fire. A man in his 50s was taken to a hospital and is in critical condition. He is believed to be the son of the eldest daughter, who is missing.
“Fire scene technicians and investigators will go to the scene on Sunday morning to clarify the circumstances of the event and try to locate the woman,” said Louis-Philippe Ruel, SQ information officer.
The fire did not appear to be of criminal origin at first glance, though the SQ investigation will have to confirm this.
