Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in downtown Montreal

A 46-year-old woman died after being struck by a car in downtown Montreal on Monday.
Around 2:15 a.m., Montreal police (SPVM) received 911 calls about the incident on René-Lévesque Blvd. and Crescent Street.
When officers arrived, the pedestrian was located unconscious on the ground.
The victim was then transported to hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
According to initial information, the driver was going west on René-Lévesque when the collision occurred on Crescent when the pedestrian crossed at a red light.
The driver — a 24-year-old — was not injured but was taken into custody for allegedly driving while impaired.
He was transported to an investigation center to take a breathalyzer test.
An investigation is ongoing.
