A 16-year-old boy has died after a stabbing Tuesday evening in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges.
Montreal police (SPVM) received several 911 calls about the incident that occurred around 6 p.m. on Barclay Street near Victoria Avenue.
The teen was found conscious with upper body injuries when officers arrived onsite — he was then transported to hospital where his life was believed to be in danger.
In the morning, the SPVM confirmed that the teen died in results to his injuries.
“This morning we have confirmation from the major crimes unit that it is now considered as the eighth homicide [recorded on the Island of Montreal this year],” SPVM media relations officer, Raphaël Bergeron told CityNews.
According to initial information obtained by officers from witnesses, the incident occurred outside and the young man was attacked by a suspect with a sharp object.
“The young man was attacked by another young man or beginning of the adult age,” said Bergeron. “At this point the motive is still to be determined, and the suspect fled on foot before police arrived. We don’t have any suspect at this point.”
Bergeron says investigator will look at different video surveillance of the area trying to identify suspects.

“Nothing indicated that this young man was known to us,” said Bergeron.
A security perimeter has been set up around the crime scene so that it can be analyzed by investigators, and they can meet with witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
No arrests have been made so far.
Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante offered condolences to the family on the X platform, calling the killing a tragedy that no parent should have to go through.
“Other witnesses that didn’t talk to police, we invite them to get in touch with the Montreal Police and give us information that they have so that could help us find a suspect in the case,” said Bergeron.
