An 89-year-old man and a 97-year-old woman were seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while they were loading their vehicle with groceries in the Place Vertu parking lot in the Saint-Laurent borough last week.

On Monday, Montreal police (SPVM) confirmed that the man later succumbed to his injuries on April 19th.

“After analyzing the information gathered by the investigator of the SPVM collision unite, they came to the conclusion that no criminal element was involved in this collision,” said Véronique Dubuc, SPVM Media relations officer.

“The driver of the vehicle made a false maneuver when backing up and hit the two pedestrians.”

On the afternoon of April 17th, at around 3:15 p.m. a call was made to 911 regarding the collision between a vehicle and two pedestrians in the shopping center parking lot located on Côte-Vertu Blvd.

“According to initial information, it was the vehicle that was performing a maneuver when he collided with two pedestrians,” said Mariane Allaire Morin, spokesperson for the Montreal police (SPVM).

The two seniors, who were friends, suffered serious injuries.

The two were transported to hospital and the SPVM had reported at the time that they were no longer in critical condition.

The driver, who is a man possibly in his 60s, remained at the scene and was not injured.

An investigation is ongoing.
