Man dies after being stabbed in St-Laurent, suspect arrested: SPVM

A 30-year-old man has died after being stabbed Thursday morning in the Saint-Laurent borough and a 40-year-old is in custody.

The victim had been taken to hospital in critical condition, but later succumbed to his injuries.

This marks the ninth homicide on Montreal Police (SPVM) territory this year.

“The 40-year-old to be met with investigators, at the moment no [charges], meeting to see his involvement in the incident,” said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.

The case has been transferred to the Montreal Police’s Major Crimes Unit. 

Authorities received a 911 call at around 4:15 a.m. about the incident in a building on Décarie Blvd., near Beaudet Street.

When officers arrived to the scene, they located the victim unconscious outside on the sidewalk, with injuries to his upper body caused by a sharp object.

“Then he was transported to hospital and he is currently in critical condition,” said SPVM spokesperson, Caroline Chèvrefils.

The SPVM added that a 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to an investigation center.

The SPVM said that victim and the alleged attacker knew each other – and the incident occurred during a conflict that escalated between them.

“The circumstances surrounding this event is currently unknown,” added Chèvrefils.

An investigation is ongoing.
