An 80-year-old woman has died after her vehicle collided with a lamppost Saturday evening in Montreal’s Saint-Leonard borough.

Sunday morning, SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc confirmed that she died after being transported to the hospital.

Montreal police (SPVM) received several 911 calls around 7:15 p.m. about the collision on Lacordaire Blvd., near Jarry Street.

When police arrived on the scene, the driver was found unconscious on the ground.

“Paramedics performed resuscitation maneuvers on the victim who was then transported to the hospital,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the SPVM.

“According to initial information, the car was travelling at high speed towards north on Lacordaire Blvd. near the intersection of Jarry Street,” Chèvrefils explained. “And for reasons that’s yet unknown the car may have lost control and then would have struck a lamppost.”

A security perimeter was set up to allow investigators to shed light on the incident.
