Tight races: Liberals take Terrebonne and Longueuil—Saint-Hubert from Bloc

The Liberals flipped two more Bloc Québécois (BQ) seats on Tuesday, one in Terrebonne and the other in Longueuil—Saint-Hubert.

In Terrebonne, BQ candidate Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné tried to hold on to her seat, but Liberal challenger Tatiana Auguste edged her out by 35 votes.

Auguste secured 23,296 votes, just ahead of Sinclair-Desgagné with 23,261 votes. Conservative candidate Adrienne Charles came in third with 10,938 votes, followed by Maxime Beaudoin of the NDP with 1,552 votes.

On Montreal’s South Shore, the Liberal Party flipped Longueuil—Saint-Hubert from the Bloc in another close contest. Natilien Joseph captured the seat for the Liberals with 24,189 votes (40.9 per cent), defeating Bloc incumbent Denis Trudel, who garnered 23,440 votes (39.6 per cent).

Conservative Martine Boucher trailed with 8,480 votes (14.3 per cent), while the NDP’s Nesrine Benhadj earned 3,029 votes (5.1 per cent).

Both ridings reflect Quebec’s increasingly competitive political landscape, with the Bloc Québécois and Liberals battling for dominance.
