Young Montreal voters are reacting as Canadians have handed the Liberals a fourth mandate.
Apathy is Boring, a non-profit organization that promotes democracy with a focus on young people, held an election watch party at Hurley’s Irish Pub in the city on Monday night.
Eager for change
Some young voters expressed how they were excited about what Mark Carney’s leadership might bring to Canada’s future.
“I love it,” said Montrealer Sarah Reusch. “I’ve been wanting a Liberal, ideally a Liberal majority.”
“I love Carney,” she added. “I think they’d be a fabulous fit for this country.”

Not everyone is convinced
Not all young voters are sold on Carney’s leadership.
“I’m feeling good,” said Montrealer Adrian Smith. “I definitely prefer that over a Conservative win.”
“But I think that a lot of the topics of the election this year were, became about the United States, or about like economic conservatism and things like that,” he added. “I wish that there was a little bit more talk about the housing crisis in our country and like the rise of wealth inequality in Canada and how we’re going to be dealing with those kind of issues.”

“Some people, they were more worried about Trump,” added Patrick Brian Bielawski, from Montreal’s South Shore. “A lot of people were more worried about affordability, housing crisis, finding a job, particularly people my age.”
“I was hoping that Pierre Poilievre would win a majority or at the very least keep the Liberals, you know, out of power,” he added. “But it looks like it might be a Liberal government. It’s been projected.”
“But at the end of the night, you know, I’m happy that people are out voting,” he explained. “It’s a historic night for Canada.”
