Game 5 of the Montreal Canadiens’ first round series goes tonight in Washington against the Capitals.

OMNI News took to the streets to see what Montrealers thought about the Habs’ chances of winning and forcing Game 6.

“I genuinely think that the Canadiens can work their way up, especially that the game is not here. I think it’s giving them that leverage. They want to come back home because if they win today against the Capitals, they know that they’re going to come back home. At least whether or not they lose here, at least we’ll finish here. That’s going to give them a little bit of hope, especially considering that we were even supposed to be in the playoffs to begin with, considering we were very last in the beginning of the season,” said one Montrealer.

“I think losing the game on Sunday really pushed them. Hopefully the refs are going to do their job properly and get their cross-checks that they had missed the last few games. I think we’re going to win tonight, so they can come back home on Friday.”

Rami, another Habs fan, said, “It’s a win or go home tonight for us. I hope they give it their all and get a game too, and we see from there, you know, anything can happen in the playoffs.” Before adding, “We hope the fans show up in Washington and cheer hard. We need them, right? They’re crazy here, I know that, but we need the fans to show up and hopefully, you know, get a win tonight.”

Naomi, another Montrealer, said, “To be honest, I’m not sure about it, but I do have positive thoughts.”

Several Montrealers were extremely confident in the Canadiens’ ability to win Game 5.

“We are going to win for sure. I am 100 per cent confident that our team is going to win, and we are going to play in the finals for sure. This time it’s our cup. After 25 years we are going to win it for sure,” said one Habs fan.

Another added, “I am confident that we will win this because they have been playing well even in the past game. And the game before that as well. We were able to win 6-3 at one point. So I am 100 per cent sure that this is not going to be the last [game] of the season and we will keep going.”

Puck drop for Game 5 is at 7 p.m., and fans can watch the game live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
