Unionized employees at the IKEA store in Montreal continued their strike on Sunday to demand better wages.
Members of the Montreal Ikea union, affiliated with the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN), went on strike at midnight on Saturday. The union members voted for a 10-day strike.

A CSN spokesperson specified that the situation will be reassessed during the day on Sunday regarding the continuation of the strike.
A notice regarding the temporary closure of certain departments at the IKEA store in Montreal, located on Cavendish Blvd., has been posted on the IKEA website. The company indicates that the returns counter, delivery service, restaurant, and kitchen planning service are among the sections of the store affected by the strike.

“We support our employees in their right to strike and remain committed to reaching a collective agreement and returning to normal operations as soon as possible,” the same notice read.
The Montreal Ikea union claims that workers at the furniture store earn less than those in similar workplaces. It represents approximately 450 employees in positions ranging from the warehouse to the showroom and kitchen.
The organization reports that the employer does not offer employees a salary indexed to inflation.
The union says that across all salary levels, the employer has offered a salary increase of around 5 per cent over four years, on average.

IKEA employees in Montreal have been without a job contract since last January.
At the time of writing, IKEA Canada had not responded to an email request for comment on Sunday. IKEA Canada did not respond to an initial interview request sent on Saturday.
