Business on Nuns’ Island targeted by arson

At least one suspect is believed to have started a fire overnight at a Montreal business on Nuns’ Island, in the Verdun borough, before fleeing the scene.

Emergency services were notified around 3 a.m. Monday that a business was on fire on Place du Commerce.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and the flames caused no injuries, but there were considerable damages.

Traces of an accelerant were found at the scene, prompting the investigation to be transferred to the Montreal Police (SPVM) arson squad.

Witnesses interviewed by the SPVM reported that at least one suspect fled the scene quickly after the fire started.

As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made in the case.
