Classic-style motorcycles filled the streets of Montreal on Sunday as part of the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, raising $45,000 for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health initiatives.
About 245 men and women participated in the annual event, riding vintage and classic-style bikes to raise awareness and funds for the Movember Foundation.

“The goal of organizing this is to make people aware about the problems and difficulties that every man has during their lives, especially after the 40s when prostate cancer knocks on the door because this brings a lot of difficulties also with mental health,” said Raul Olivier, co-organizer of the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride Montreal.
“We know that men are the part of the population, men over 40, that they committed suicide more often than the rest of the population. So for us it’s very important that everyone knows about the situation.”
Montreal’s ride is one of 33 held in Canada this year and part of a global effort spanning more than 120 countries. Over the past 10 years, riders in Montreal have raised $550,000.

“Every cent that is sent to the Movember organization is coming back to the region. It’s not global, it’s not Canada only, it’s for the region,” Olivier said. “We are not here to collect money only. We are here to open the mind of everyone and if you have any person of your family that is suffering about these situations, talk about it because we know that men keep this very personal and sometimes we are not open to talk about it.”
