Quebec government engineers on strike again Friday

Quebec government engineers are resuming their indefinite strike this Friday at 8 a.m.
They are 2,100 engineers, members of l’Association professionnelle des ingénieurs du gouvernement du Québec (APIGQ) — a union independent of the central power plants. They work for the ministries of Transportation, Municipal Affairs, the Environment, and Cybersecurity, among others.
They began by holding evening, night, and weekend strikes before launching an indefinite strike on May 2. This was then suspended from May 13 to 23, before returning to work. They are now back at the picket lines this Friday at 8 a.m.
The wage increases themselves are not at issue in their case, since the Quebec government offered them wage increases of 17.4 per cent over five years, the same as those granted to all government employees.
The sectoral allocation is at the heart of the dispute, that is, the amount set aside for engineers’ other working conditions, including insurance, office layout, and salary structure.
The office of Treasury Board President Sonia LeBel claims to have offered the same sectoral allocation to engineers, but the APIGQ maintains that other public sector unions received more.
