Montreal’s major cycling weekend is right around the corner.
Thousands of cyclists are getting ready to take part in the Tour la Nuit, on Friday, and the Tour de l’Île de Montréal, on Sunday.
This year, the routes will run east of Pie-IX Boulevard.
As always, the event will lead to street closures and parking restrictions, causing significant traffic disruptions in several areas of Montreal’s East End.
“The City of Montreal is proud to support these gatherings, which highlight our commitment to sustainable and inclusive mobility,” said city spokesperson Philippe Sabourin. “This is a unique annual event for which we work several months in advance to minimize its impact on mobility.
“We’re asking everyone to plan their move very carefully this weekend,” said Sabourin. “We thank Montrealers for their cooperation and patience during these exceptional days.”

Tour la Nuit (Friday)
- Street closures from 7:30 p.m. to midnight
- Affected area: from Viau and Beaubien streets, between Henri-Bourassa and Langelier boulevards
- Streets will be reopened, in sections, as cyclists pass through

Tour de l’Île (Sunday)
“For Tour de la Nuit, if people need to travel east to west, Highway 40, Sherbrooke Street and Notre-Dame Street are open for cars to get around,” said Jean-François Rheault, president and chief executive officer of Vélo Québec. “The thing to look at is the area of Saint-Leonard. The accessing and exiting Saint-Leonard during Tour de la Nuit on Friday will only be available using Highway 40 at Lacordaire Exit.”
“For Tour de la Nuit on Sunday, Highway 40 and Sherbrooke Street are good roads to get around east-west. If you live in the district of Pointe-aux-Trembles, the only access to get in and out will be through the Pont Jean-Baptiste le Gardeur via Repentigny. So it’s not a direct route, but you can access the city of Montreal using Highway 40, so it’s something to look at. There will also be a shuttle put in place in the area with the STM. More information is available on the STM website.”
- Street closures from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Affected area: south of Gouin Boulevard and north of Notre-Dame Street, between Pie-IX Boulevard and the eastern tip of the island.
- Streets will be reopened, in sections, as cyclists pass through.
- Six crossing points will allow traffic to continue outside the routes: the Olivier-Charbonneau Bridge, the Metropolitan Highway, Sherbrooke Street, Souligny Avenue, the Jean-Baptiste-Legardeur Bridge, and the Charles-De Gaulle Bridge.

“Tips for shoppers, If you have a habit of going with your car to the grocery store, that Friday night, please do it before 7.30 p.m., otherwise, it could turn into a nightmare,” said Sabourin. “You don’t want that, plan your move, do your grocery shopping before 7.30 p.m. on Friday. Regarding le Tour de Nuit on Sunday, we have a concern for the area’s of Montreal-Est and a part of Pointe-au-Trembles. If you live in those areas, you better go online, check the map. There’s many details with info-circulation.”
Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated the Tour de l’Île was happening Saturday. It’s actually on Sunday.
