A man in his 50s drowned after he went missing after his boat capsized in the Portneuf region, between trois-rivières and Quebec City, in the Sainte-Anne River on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Sainte-Christine-d’Auvergne, near Route des Cascades, at around 4:30 p.m. after an inflatable boat capsized.

According to preliminary information, two people were aboard the vessel, said Laurie Avoine, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

A woman in her 40s made it to shore. She reportedly suffered no injuries.

However, the man accompanying her was still missing several hours after the incident. A search was underway in the evening to locate him on the river.

The SQ said that the person was wearing a lifejacket but reportedly lost it during the incident, that it may have not been properly attached.
