A 27-year-old man died after he was shot in a Brossard park late Wednesday night, when authorities say a gathering turned violent.
Longueuil Police (SPAL) were called to a park on Marie-Victorin Blvd. shortly before 11 p.m. after shots were reported.
“The SPAL confirms that this is a homicide,” the SPAL wrote in a Facebook post. “The victim, Cedrick Bélizaire, 27, died from his gunshot wounds (…) Anyone with information is asked to contact the SPAL.”
The victim was known to police, allegedly tied to street gangs and had previously served prison time.
The SPAL encourages anyone with information regarding this incident to call 911 or contact the Info-Azimut hotline anonymously at 450-646-8500.
Police say multiple people were at the park when the incident happened and some have been met by authorities – but no arrests have been made so far.
“A large security perimeter has been established to protect the scene and allow investigators to conduct their investigation. The police are currently interviewing witnesses. Investigators, accompanied by specialized teams, will be on site to shed light on the exact circumstances of the incident,” said Marie Beauvais, public relations officer for SPAL.
Traffic was reduced to one lane toward La Prairie Street between Rhoda Street and Matte Blvd. early Thursday morning. The police force is asking motorists to avoid the area.
This is the sixth murder on Longueuil police territory this year, and the first related to gun violence in 2025.
