2 Quebec police officers facing sex assault charges

Two Quebec provincial police officers have been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault from 2022.

Quebec’s police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), says the two Sûreté du Québec officers from the MRC de Montcalm station were arrested Thursday.

It marks the 28th and 29th officers arrested by the BEI for criminal offences since its creation in 2016.

Sgt. Louis-Philippe Tessier and Officer Maxime Denis each face one count of sexual assault.

The BEI also says it arrested two former Nunavik police officers – one on Sept. 16, 2024, and the other on May 27, 2025.

The September 2024 arrest is in connection with alleged offences between 1997 and 2020 while the accused was a Nunavik police officer.

The May 2025 arrest is in connection with alleged offences from 2000 in the Inuit community of Quaqtaq.

Charlie Keelan is facing six charges, including sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a teenage girl in a relationship of dependency or authority.

Sunchild (George) Deer-Okpik is facing seven charges, including sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a teenage girl in a relationship of dependency or authority, as well as unlawful confinement.

The BEI says those arrests conclude a months-long investigation entrusted to the police watchdog by Quebec’s minister of public security.

None of the allegations against the four men have been tested in court.
