Increase in passenger traffic at Montreal airport in 2nd quarter – except with United States

Cross-border traffic with the United States declined in the second quarter at the Montreal-Trudeau Airport, partially offset by an increase in domestic and international traffic.
ADM Aéroports de Montréal announced Wednesday it welcomed a total of 5.7 million passengers at the Dorval airport during the quarter ending June 30. This represents an increase of 0.9 per cent compared to the same period last year.
This slight increase offsets a first quarter marked by tensions between the United States and Canada. However, the number of passengers remains down in the first half of the year compared to the first half of 2024.
In the second quarter of 2025, cross-border traffic declined by 7.6 per cent, while domestic and international traffic increased by 4.7 per cent and 2.9 per cent, respectively.
ADM President and CEO Yves Beauchamp emphasized in a press release that flight operations are proceeding smoothly, despite the reconfiguration work on the road network leading to the airport and the weather conditions.
On the financial side, ADM’s revenues totaled $232.4 million in the second quarter, up 1.4 per cent compared to $229.2 million in the same period last year. The organization attributes this increase to higher airport improvement fees and other aeronautical fees, which offset the decline in traffic in the first half.
Net income before net financial expenses, taxes, depreciation, amortization, and share of joint ventures’ earnings (EBITDA) reached $105.4 million in the second quarter, compared to $116.3 million last year.
As of June 30, ADM’s net debt stood at $2.37 billion. This represents the difference between the gross balance payable on long-term bonds and the amount available in cash. It was $2.16 billion at the same time last year.
Operating expenses increased 10.4 per cent in the second quarter to $194.4 million. These expenses are primarily related to facility development studies, according to ADM.
ADM Aéroports de Montréal is the airport authority responsible for the management, operation, and development of YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport and YMX Mirabel International Airport.
