Quebec heat wave: Laval extends pool, splash pad hours

The City of Laval is extending the opening hours of most pools and some splash pads to help residents cope with this week’s blistering heat.
City pools will open at 11 a.m. and extend until 9 p.m. at the latest – depending on crowds and light conditions.
The Complexe aquatique de Laval, which provides an air-conditioned space, will remain open until 10 p.m.
Certain splash pads will open at 10 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and close at 9 p.m., while others will be open 24/7.
“The city remains in active monitoring mode, in constant contact with its partners, and adjusts its aquatic services daily based on the weather, traffic, and staff availability,” the city said in a news release.

It’s all in response to the high heat that’s descended on western Quebec this week, with highs of 34 Celsius (40 C with the humidex).
An Environment Canada heat warning remains in effect.
