Man arrested in connection to fatal hit-and-run on Highway 20: SQ

By The Canadian Press

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) arrested a man in connection with a  fatal collision followed by a hit-and-run that occurred Tuesday on Highway 20 near Saint-Hyacinthe, in Montérégie.

In a press release issued Friday morning, the SQ indicated that the Boucherville major crime investigation division arrested the 39-year-old man on Thursday in Outaouais.

“The suspect, who is currently in custody, could face charges of hit and run causing death and hit-and-run causing bodily harm,” the police said. The man was scheduled to appear via videoconference at the Saint-Hyacinthe courthouse on Friday.

The SQ claims that the arrest was made possible thanks to the collaboration of truck drivers and merchants, who helped gather the information needed to solve the case.

On Tuesday, one person died and three others suffered serious injuries in the road accident.

The collision occurred around 6:30 a.m. when the trailer of a truck entering the highway hit a car.
