Montreal police investigating suspected arson at Chinatown business overnight

By News Staff

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating a suspected arson after a business in Chinatown was on fire overnight Wednesday.

At around 3:30 a.m., Montreal firefighters were bringing the blaze under control and asked for the SPVM’s collaboration with the incident on St-Laurent Blvd. near De la Gauchetière St. E.

“There is an incendiary object that was found at the scene,” said Véronique Dubuc, a media relations officer for the SPVM. “So we can believe it was a fire criminal in nature.”

Orange police tape could still be seen wrapped around the perimeter on Wednesday morning.

SPVM vehicles were also at the scene.

No arrests have been made so far, the investigation is ongoing and was transferred to the SPVM’s arson squad.
