Quebec municipalities will start seeing campaign posters being put up as of Friday, as the official electoral period kicks off ahead of the Nov. 2 elections.
1,100 municipalities are holding their elections that day, and Élections Québec says there are some new things to look out for.
The president of the election in municipalities will have the opportunity to add four more days to vote at their office. For municipalities with 20,000 or more residents, they are required to offer a voting period at the office of the president of the election on Friday, Oct. 24, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Municipalities will also be able to add another day of advance voting. The president can now decide if they want to add Saturday, Oct. 25, as an advance voting day, in addition to the planned Sunday, Oct. 26, advance voting day that weekend.
Each municipality is also establishing a mobile voting team for residents with reduced mobility and people who can’t displace themselves due to health reasons.
They’re also implementing pilot projects in certain municipalities, including adding information and the photos of candidates at polling stations and establishing small polling stations designed for children, between the ages of 3 and 12, to learn about the electoral process.
In Montreal, voters will also be able to cast their ballots on certain campuses.
The deadline for Quebecers to submit their candidacy in this election is Oct. 3.
