12 families evacuated after more than 100 firefighters battle blaze in Montreal

Twelve families were evacuated after a fire broke out in a residential building early Wednesday morning in Montreal’s Ville-Marie borough.

At around 3:30 a.m., firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) were called to the blaze of a two-storey building on Hogan Street, near Verdon Street.

About 130 firefighters were dispatched to fight the flames. Many were still onsite later Wednesday morning, picking up their equipment and assessing the area.

According to the SIM, the building’s occupants were evacuated, but no one was injured.

They also added that one firefighter suffered heatstroke, but he is fine and his life is not in danger.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the origin of the fire.
