Longueuil officers face threats following fatal police shooting death of teen

Police on Montreal’s South Shore have launched an investigation after officers received death threats in the wake of a fatal shooting involving a teenager last weekend, sparking concerns over escalating tensions between law enforcement and the community.

Longueuil police addressed the threats without mentioning the shooting in a post on their social media pages Wednesday evening.

The social media post states that a Longueuil police officer is currently under protective measures after being targeted by online threats against himself and his family.

The shooting of Nooran Rezayi, on Sept. 21, has sparked uproar in the community and two marches are planned for this weekend.

The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) – Quebec’s police watchdog – has launched an investigation into the shooting and has said the only firearm recovered from the scene was the one that belonged to police.

Five BEI investigators have been assigned to the case and are being assisted by Montreal Police (SPVM).
