Voters unable to travel due to health reasons can request at home vote: Élections Montréal

Élections Montréal is reminding all voters who are unable to travel to exercise their right to vote for health reasons, can request to vote at home.

Friday, Élections Montréal said that voters who aren’t able to travel, have until Oct. 16 to make their request which will allow them the ability to vote at home on Oct. 25.

To be able to do this, one must be a registered voter at make the request to Élections Montréal by calling 514-872-8683 or by emailing.

Those who vote at home, including caregivers, will be able to cast their ballots in a mobile ballot box, which will be brought to them by elections officials.

Additionally, voting will be made easier for Montrealers living in seniors’ residences.

Élections Montréal is now able to set up polling stations in seniors’ residences, allowing easier access for more people to vote. With this over 70 residences that house over 100 people are expected to have a mobile polling station on Oct. 25.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen the importance that older adults place on voting. Today, we can only welcome the changes to the law, which give us more latitude to allow seniors and all those who are unable to travel to carry out their duty. October 25 will be a day of democracy in many Montreal residences and homes, and my team is very proud of it,” said Emmanuel Tani-Moore in a statement.

Élections Montréal says they are expecting a higher voter turnout this year, and are offering several days of advanced polling, which includes over 200 locations on Oct. 26.

Election day is Nov. 2, and Montrealers will be able to cast their ballots from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
