Your guide to voting in the Montreal municipal election 2025

Voters across La Belle Province will be heading to the polls on Nov. 2 to choose their local representatives.
Montrealers across 19 boroughs will get to pick the city’s next mayor and councillors as well as for the borough they reside in.
Here are all the key dates and information you need for the election.
Eligibility
To be eligible to vote, a person must meet all these requirements:
- Be 18 years or older as of Nov. 2, 2025
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Currently reside in Montreal and have lived in Quebec since May 2, 2025 or earlier
- Be registered on the electoral list
- Not be under guardianship or be subject to a legal incapacity
Non-residents of the City of Montreal may be eligible to vote if they are the sole or co-owner of a property or sole or co-occupant of a business within city limits at least since Sept. 18, 2025. They must submit a written request to Élections Montréal.
Registration
Montrealers need to register to vote the latest by 6 p.m., Oct. 16, 2025. Your can verify your registration status on the Élections Montréal website.
If you need to register to vote, Élections Montréal provides online and in-person options.
- Online registration can be done by filling out a form before 6 p.m. on Oct. 15 and meeting with an elections official via video conference.
- In-person registration drives will be held from Oct. 11 through Oct. 16 across the city. Time and location can be found here.
To complete the registration, you have to provide two documents: one containing your name and date of birth and another with your name and current address.
Candidates
Over 400 candidates are in the running.

How to vote & dates
Polling stations across the city will be open on the election day and for advance voting.
- Election Day: Nov. 2, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Advance Voting:
- Oct. 26 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Oct. 24, 27, 28 and 29 at Electoral Office in your borough
- Cégep and university students: You may be able to vote on-campus
- Oct. 24, 27, 28 and 29
- Senior Residences
- Oct. 25
Voters with limited mobility may request home voting until Oct. 16, 6 p.m.
Under Quebec law, employers are required to provide at least four hours for voting on the election day without reduction in pay or other penalty.
Canada Post Strike
Élections Montréal warns that due to the ongoing postal strike it cannot send out over 800,000 envelopes containing voter registration information by mail. However, it notes that online, email and phone options remain available for Montrealers to verify their registration status.
Voter reminder cards with polling station information might be sent out by post in time for the advance voting if Canada Post restores service. But, Élections Montréal could use other means to distribute the information.
