La Fontaine tunnel reopens towards South Shore, after truck hits ceiling entrance

By News Staff

Montreal’s La Fontaine tunnel southbound was completely closed for hours on Tuesday after a truck hit some metal panels right under the ceiling entrance – in the morning.

The truck was carrying a mechanical shovel.

It also hit a metal structure right before that – that indicated the height restrictions.

Transport Quebec says their engineers were onsite and confirmed the structure itself was not impacted – that there were – what they call – superficial damages only.

It happened around 9 a.m. – and just before 12:30 p.m. the tunnel was reopened.

“A truck struck the structure at the entrance to the tunnel and decided to continue on its way,” said Transport Quebec.

No injures were reported.

Transport Quebec added that this had no impact on northbound traffic.
