REM briefly halted by technical problem Friday morning ahead of November closures

The Réseau express métropolitain (REM) experienced a brief service interruption early Friday morning due to a technical problem, leaving rush hour commuters with delays between downtown and Montreal’s South Shore.

Service resumed gradually in both directions at around 6:30 a.m.

Shuttle busses were deployed during the interruption to help passengers complete their trips.

“The cause of this immobilization is being analyzed,” the REM told CityNews. “A train without passengers on board came to a halt between Gare Centrale and Île-des-Sœurs station this morning before the start of service.”

“Agents have been dispatched to the network to restart everything,” they added.

The REM is set to have a full system shutdown on Nov. 2, 8, and 9 to help finalize some work in preparation for the upcoming commissioning. The new Deux-Montagnes branch remains on track to open Nov. 17.

An early closure is also expected for Friday, Nov. 7.

“Last departure at 9:20 p.m. from Brossard and 9:40 p.m. from Central Station,” the REM said. “Shuttle buses will be available.”
