A popular reception hall in Rivière-des-Prairies (RDP) sustained major damages overnight when a fire broke out.
Montreal firefighters (SIM) responded to a call at Le Châteaubriand on Maurice-Duplessis, corner Armand-Bombardier Blvd., at around 2:39 a.m. on Friday for what they describe as a second-alarm blaze.
More than 80 firefighters were on location and SIM confirms that the second floor was heavily damaged by the fire. The first floor sustained water damages and damages from the smoke, they say.
By 10:15 a.m. the fire department reports that the blaze was under control.
Multiple broken windows could be seen and marks of black smoke on the front of the building. Exposed walls and ceilings were also visible through the broken windows from the outside.
Police were onsite to help secure the area so firefighters could work.

No one was inside at the time – as the hall was closed.
Reached by phone Friday morning, the team from Le Châteaubriand was with the fire department investigators and confirmed the hall is damaged – and that they won’t be able to open. It’s unclear what this will mean exactly and what a timeline for reopening will be.
On social media forums for the community, one user commented that they were to attend a wedding at the hall on Saturday night.
An investigation is ongoing by the fire department to understand exactly what caused the blaze. As of now, Montreal police are not involved in the case.
