Montreal braces for a little more snow and chilly days ahead

By News Staff

Get ready, Montrealers. Another stretch of flurries and a cold front settling over the city as December gets underway.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is calling for light snowfall Tuesday, followed by several rounds of flurries and steadily falling temperatures through early next week.

Snow ends this afternoon, cold sticks around

Light snow is expected to end late Tuesday afternoon, with 2 to 4 centimetres on the ground by the time it passes. Winds will remain light, reaching up to 15 km/h.

The temperature will climb to a high of –6 C, though the wind chill will make it feel closer to –12.

Skies will clear partly tonight, but there remains a 30 per cent chance of flurries. The low will fall to –10, with a wind chill near –14.

Mixed conditions expected Wednesday

A mix of sun and cloud is in the forecast for Wednesday, with a 30 per cent chance of flurries in the morning. Winds will stay light.

The daytime high will reach –3, though it will feel like –14 early in the day and –6 in the afternoon. The UV index will be 1, or low.

Flurries are expected to return Wednesday night, when the temperature drops to –3.

ECCC telling CityNews that, a cold front will be coming in Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with temperatures falling and flurries likely early in the morning on Thursday.

“It could be some frontal snow squalls, so it could be some heavy flurries early Thursday morning, and we’ll have to wait and see about that one,” explained Peter Kimbell, Warning Preparedness Meteorologist, ECCC.

More snow Thursday before clearing

Snow will continue Thursday, with a high of –4.

Conditions will improve Thursday night as skies clear and the temperature falls to –14.

“It’s gonna be a cold, we have basically a cold air mass in store for the next few days, we have lows […] of -14 on Thursday night, and then -17 on Sunday night,” said Kimbell.

Unsettled weather moves in for the weekend

Friday will bring a mix of sun and cloud with a high of –5.

Cloudier conditions return Friday night, along with a 70 per cent chance of flurries, and a low of –6.

Saturday will remain cloudy with another 70 per cent chance of flurries and a high of –2. The chance of flurries continues into Saturday night, when the temperature dips to –10.

Cold, mostly clear end to the week

Sunday will be partly sunny with a high of –7, followed by a clear and colder night at –17.

Monday will be sunny, with a high near –11, but temperatures will remain well below seasonal.
