A coalition of federal, provincial, and municipal leaders joined major financial partners today to inaugurate four new housing projects designed to provide safe and supportive living environments for women in vulnerable situations and their children.
During a gathering at the historic home base of Le Chaînon, officials celebrated the opening of the new transition house l’Annexe, marking a significant milestone in Montreal’s continuum of services for women fleeing violence or instability.
The event also highlighted the inauguration of Parados, a second-stage shelter, as well as new funding for two additional initiatives: l’Élan, led by Un toit pour elles, and RLS, operated by La Sortie.
Altogether, the four facilities will offer 67 new social and affordable housing units, along with essential support services to help women rebuild their lives in safety and dignity.

The projects were coordinated by Bâtir son quartier and Atelier Habitation Montréal and backed by more than $48 million in combined funding from the governments of Canada and Quebec, the City of Montreal, the Desjardins Fonds du Grand Mouvement, and the Fonds de solidarité FTQ.
The announcement was made by the Honourable Rachel Bendayan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister of Canada; Caroline Proulx, Quebec’s Minister Responsible for Housing and the Status of Women; Caroline Desrochers, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure; and Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Mayor of Montreal.
They emphasized the urgent need for long-term, stable housing solutions for women facing violence and socioeconomic vulnerability.
