Police in Rosemère are investigating after a 78-year-old man was found dead outside a residential building on Bouthillier Street near the Place Rosemère shopping centre on Friday morning – the third senior to have died after being found in the cold this week in the Greater Montreal.
The building is a subsidized housing complex operated by the local municipal housing office and is primarily occupied by seniors who live independently. Rosemère is around 35 km north of Montreal.
The Thérèse-de Blainville police service (RIPTB) says officers were called to the area shortly before 9:30 a.m., where the man was discovered unconscious near 66 Bouthillier St.
Emergency responders transported him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A security perimeter was set up to preserve the scene.
Investigators remain on site to interview witnesses and gather information to determine what happened.
Police say it is too early to confirm the cause of death, though there is no indication so far of criminal activity.
A spokesperson for the force said the man was found by a witness.

“We understand that this type of event raises concerns, particularly during the winter months,” Chief Inspector Karine Desaulniers said in a statement. “All necessary measures are being taken to clarify the facts. Out of respect for the family and the investigation process, no further details will be released at this time.”
We can confirm that the Coroner’s Office has been notified of this death. Coroner Annie-Claude Auger has been appointed to conduct an investigation to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the death.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators confidentially.
On Monday an 88-year old woman was found dead outside a private seniors’ residence (RPA) in Laval.
On Thursday another woman, 84 years old, died after being found unconscious by a snowplow operator on a Longueil street in the freezing cold – only lightly dressed – outside her home.
The Quebec Coroner’s office is probing all three deaths.
