Maman Dion Foundation ceasing operations permanently

By The Canadian Press

The Maman Dion Foundation, which worked for 20 years to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds succeed in school, is set to cease operations permanently on Wednesday.

The foundation made the announcement on Monday on social media.

In its message, it thanked its sponsors, partners, donors and volunteers.

Established in 2005 by Thérèse Tanguay Dion, the foundation’s mission was to “promote fulfilment, encourage self-esteem and the desire to succeed in school among young Quebecers” aged five to 16 from disadvantaged backgrounds.

In particular, it provided basic school supplies, clothing and glasses to children in need.

One of Thérèse Tanguay Dion’s daughters, singer Claudette Dion, served as the foundation’s executive director and spokesperson.

Thérèse Tanguay Dion, mother of 14 children, including Céline Dion, passed away in 2020 at the age of 92.
